DO YOUR PRACTICE

DHARMA TALK - OCTOBER 1, 2017 I HEART YOGA

How did you start your yoga journey?  When was your first class?  What was a pose you never thought you could do and yet now, you are almost there, if not already? What was it that allowed you to progress in that pose?  For me, it's one word - practice.  A lot of things in our lives we get better at with practice - whether its a skill we are trying to learn, a dish we keep cooking in the hopes it will taste better, a foreign language we are trying to speak. The list goes on.

In yoga, “do your practice” is an invitation or a reminder to practice yoga in its entirety. And when we do, not only does our practice evolve – in that our body grows stronger and more flexible and able to accomplish more difficult asanas – we, in and of ourselves, evolve. We grow and our lives evolve.

Yoga is 99% practice and 1% theory.  It doesn't matter if you do your first downdog at 12 or 50.  It's not your history but your presence on the mat that counts.  Dedication, patience, focus and commitment will get you there.  With that said, I invite you to set an intention of surrendering to your practice today and every day.
